German army had as much or more diverse troops than the allied army. Well that reveals the manufactured history we are taught in school about Germany and the chancellor. Isn't it.

Fresh Perspective

This book highlights the ethnic diversity amongst those who supported the Third Reich. Germany was willing and able to support a variety of cultures around the world. The view of the Third Reich as the world's most racist regime takes a hit when comparisons are made between Germany, the United States and Britain.

Shining light on the Rainbow Reich.

Multi-culturalism is rife these days but not really new as Veronica Clark (a courageous military historian) shows in her recent book. What motivated many was not the love of the Third Reich so much as them being weary of the British colonial rule or how the English treated them in attaining and maintaining it, disdain for Soviet Bolsheviks, and the international banking cartel. It at least questions in a sober, and not entirely humorless way, the perception of just what the Germany of those years was compared to the huge propaganda saying what we're supposed to believe it was. Even some 'noe-Nazis' could learn from this book and forgo their racialism and realize what they was the German Reich was not what it actually was.
Veronica Clark uses mainly what was written at the time and proves, to me, when Europeans write their history without fear and honestly, it is much more revealing. Who would imagine the German Reich to be so inclusive and struggle deeply with the reality that, to win, many of their old prejudices had to be modified or dropped and did so, more than many so-called Allies fighting for Four Freedoms who claimed to be doing the same things and did not.

About the Author

Susan Ferguson is Professor of Sociology at Grinnell College, where she has taught for almost 20 years. Ferguson regularly teaches Introduction to Sociology, and her critically acclaimed anthology, Mapping the Social Landscape: Readings in Sociology (McGraw-Hill, 2010) is used in introductory classes around the country. Ferguson also teaches courses on the family, medical sociology, the Sociology of the Body, and a new seminar on social inequality and identity. Ferguson has published in all of these areas, including the research collection, Breast Cancer: Society Shapes an Epidemic (with co-editor Anne Kasper, Palgrave, 2000), and Shifting the Center: Understanding Contemporary Families (McGraw-Hill, 2011). In addition, Ferguson is the General Editor for “Contemporary Family Perspectives,” which is a series of research monographs and short texts on the family (Sage Publications).

Ferguson, who grew up in a working class family in Colorado, still considers the Rocky Mountains to be her spiritual home. A first-generation college student, Ferguson was able to attend college with the help of scholarships, work study, and financial loans. She majored in Political Science and Spanish and also completed certificates of study in Women’s Studies and Latin American Studies. After working a couple of years for a large research grant sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development, Ferguson entered graduate school and completed her master’s degree in sociology at Colorado State University and her Ph.D. in sociology at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Her areas of study are gender, family, women’s health, and pedagogy, but her primary enthusiasm is for teaching.

Awesome - If You Can Find It!

I teach an undergrad intro course in Women's and Gender Studies. I can't tell you how many potential texts I reviewed before FINALLY finding this one, which is the absolute best of the best. The theoretical underpinnings of the book are social constructionism and intersectionality -- and the chapters don't just pay lip service to these theoretical frameworks, they explain them and apply them in ways that make sense to college students. Every week I use selections from three books with each week organized thematically: this text, The Essential Feminist Reader (Modern Library Classics) and The Feminist Utopia Project: Fifty-Seven Visions of a Wildly Better Future. These books work very well in concert and the students can really sink their teeth into the content. My only complaint with Ferguson's text is it's lack of availability -- it's on backorder everywhere, including on Amazon, and there is no e-book version. Get this book. Use it. You will not be disappointed and neither will your students.

Fun Music!

I use this book as a supplement to method for my level two and three students. The song titles vary from smooth legato to boogie woogie blues. The arrangements are easy, but don't lack the substance needed to make a song interesting. It's just enough for this level of student. I highly recommend this book. Have fun!

This is a great book for the early intermediate student- a variety of pieces from the pretty songs to a bit more jazzy and also ragtime. My piano student enjoys it and had a hard time deciding which one to start with first since they all sounded so fun.

fun to play, but thin!

Martha Mier obviously had only one book's worth of material but spread it out over three books so you end up paying more. Each book has about 22 pages of playable material! Once I got the fingerings down in the second book I was able to play through the entire volume in 8 minutes 45 seconds.

Note that this is all material original with Mier: she's not just the anthologist. There are three books in this series, although as of my writing Amazon isn't listing #1 and #2.

The books are supposed to be on the simple side, but everything's on the simple side. The simple book is distressingly simple, the intermediate book is unsatisfyingly simple, and the third book is disappointingly simple.

How simple? Well, there's no agreement as to what "easy" means in the field of piano literature, so I will say this: you could confidently tackle all three books after having finished only the first of the three Alfred's Adult Piano Course books.

About the Author

Dr. Prabhata K. Swamee is a distinguished Emeritus Professor of Civil Engineering at ITM University, Gurgaon, India. Dr. Swamee completed his B.E. (Civil Engineering) in 1962 and M.E. (Hydraulic Engineering) in 1966 from University of Roorkee (now IIT Roorkee), India. He completed his PhD in civil engineering from the same institute in 1974. Dr. Swamee has co-authored 2 books and has to his credit 111 papers published in international journals. Dr. Swamee is Fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineering.

Dr. Bhagu R. Chahar is Professor of Civil Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, India. He was a Visiting Professor at the Ecole des mines de Saint-Etienne, France and Asian Institute of Technology Bangkok. Dr. Chahar received his PhD in Civil Engineering from IIT Roorkee and MTech in Civil Engineering with specialisation Water Resources Engineering from IIT Kharagpur. He has 22 years of teaching, research and industry experience in water resources engineering and has published more than 100 articles in reputed journals and proceedings. Dr. Chahar is recipient of several scholarships and awards including Visiting International Fellowship of EWRI of ASCE, Young Scientist of DST and AICTE Career Award for Young Teachers. He is Fellow of ISH, IWWA, IE(I) and IWRS and Life Member of ISTE, IAH and ASCE.

What I like about these series of books I is that people who write them cut the "professional" jargon and get straight to the point.Then, one can use the bibliography to delve further into the subject being addressed.
