While a challenging subject, this book makes for an easy read. It is much easier to comprehend than some of my other science courses' textbooks. The writing style is very clear, not wordy or verbose and gets directly to the point. I waste very little time trying to decode what the author is conveying as opposed to some others I have read. I will admit the images are extremely graphic and not for the faint hearted. I would assume that most of those reading this text are in the medical field in some way and thus unfazed or even intrigued, but for me it was a little shocking. All in all, this textbook makes studying a difficult subject a breeze.

In order to prove that figurative language is essential in communication and therefore needs to receive more attention in schools, I start by analysing and comparing the concepts of metaphors, idioms and proverbs. Many scholars have discussed metaphors and so as to outline the most important aspects, I refer to Lakoff, Johnson, Ortony and Langlotz amongst others. Those aspects will include the differences between novel and conventional metaphors, the different functions that metaphors fulfil and the phenomenon of mixed metaphors. When discussing idioms I focus on their relationship to metaphorical language, the aspect of frozenness and their functions as well as other topics. Here, scholars like Swinney, Skandara and Götz are quoted and their propositions towards idiomatic language are analysed. To end the first part of the paper I discuss the relationship of proverbs to metaphors and idioms and base this part on Norrick in order to focus on didactic content and the issue of distinguishing between a proverb's literal and figurative meaning. After having given the survey of those concepts, I turn to the part of explaining why it is so important to teach figurative language and I do that by drawing on Ortony's theses of compactness, inexpressibility and vividness. Furthermore, Katz's theory of metaphor as politeness is examined and also Liu's view on idioms as containing cultural references. Inspiration to All Philosophers

Baudrillard's ideas are trenchant, contemporary, and multi-dimensional. I recommend this book for every contemporary intellectual in the English-speaking world. Baudrillard's ideas, as some critics have said, are not to be ignored.

Baudrillard provides an important platform for dimensional theories I am developing in my own works, which are part of the Dimensional Encyclopedia (a work in progress, some volumes of which have already been published with my direct publisher).

Although more nihilistic than he might be, there is no doubt that Baudrillard has some of the best ideas, ideas that importantly span between such areas as epistemology and social criticism.

'Paroxysm' is an important work of philosophy in the form of superb interviews. It influenced my use of the word 'paroxysm' to define a double-paradox or solution to all paradoxes, although Baudrillard does not define the term this way.

Postmodern nonsense

Here's a big heads up. Although I have the deepest respect for Philippe Petit, ( he was the guy that walked across a wire between the twin towers in New York). Petit does an admirable job of trying to tease out what the heck Baudrillard is trying to say. And some of the things he says make a certain amount of sense, it is just that the way he says it that is the problem. This is a great instantiation of taking a few good ideas and killing them with circular, redundant, boring prose; the sure "tell" of a postmodern mind caught in its own web of obfuscation.

This is a great introduction to Baudrillard's thought. Petit probes Baudrillard's mind on key points of his analysis. Baudrillard provides clear(as clear as it gets) explanations of what he intends for the reader to understand.

This book told me everything I wanted to know about finding ginseng in the wild -- yes there is wild ginseng in the United States, and it is valuable. The detail was amazing, as was the history of the American plant dating back to George Washington. I learned how to grow ginseng and prepare it for sale. I also found a list of businesses that sell the seeds to get you started, and a list of buyers who will purchase all the ginseng you can find or grow. The color photos were a real help. Best of all, I found over $100 of ginseng while hiking one day. What a trip!

Exellent Book! Couldn't stop readin

Pros: goes over almost all the ginseng growing information you would want to know. In good detail and well explained. You are not left wondering about anything... you know like when you buy other books and can't figure out what they are talking about or they leave out entire explanations NOT on this book... I literally sat down started reading, went to bed, woke up started reading again and finished by end of morning. Didn't set it down other than to sleep... very easy read and worth it.

Cons: Could use more illustrations or even schematics would be helpful with their descriptions though not necessary and the price is pretty high for the hardback so I got the cloud version and read it on my computer.

having some dirty edges from use and no writing

The description said that it had some minor use, having some dirty edges from use and no writing, but the description was a deception. The front cover was bent, there was writing in and on the book, but the edges, however, weren't that dirty. Also, there was a range of when the book was going to come and it took over 2 weeks. A bit disappointed, but the book will serve its purpose.
